Fate and Free Will in Vedic Philosophy: How Much of Your Life Do You Really Choose?
Have you ever wondered how much of your life is fate and how much is free will?
Some things in our lives seem to be already in play. We cannot undo them. But still, every day, we continue to make choices, small and large, that determines what happens next.
So where does fate end, and free will begin?
This is one of the most important questions in astrology. because the way you answer this question determines how you will read your birth chart. Fate and free will is addressed in many places in Vedic philosophy, including the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
In a recent webinar, we explored this question in a light, fun and playful way.
We began with a very simple game. People chose numbers, animals and colours. Some chose their favourites. Some chose what felt lucky. Some chose randomly. Others were drawn towards what felt familiar, safe or comfortable. And then something interesting happened once the choices had been made. The game began, and we tried to show the answer to the question of fate and free will in a fun and playful way. There may be things already in motion because of choices made in the past. At the same time, you are making choices now that may shape your future.
Vedic philosophy gives us an interesting way to look at this relationship between destiny and choice. It also raises a more personal question:
How do you make your choices?
Do you choose from habit? Emotion? Comfort? Familiarity? Intuition? Or something else?
