Did you ever notice how wearing a particular shade uplifts your mood or how a room painted in a calming tone seems to quieten the mind? You have already brushed against the power of colour therapy.
In Vedic Astrology, every planet vibrates at a specific frequency, and hence is reflected in certain colours. Consciously choosing the colours we use and wear, we can gently nudge our natal chart toward harmony.
Why Colour Works in an Astrological Framework
Ancient seers associated each graha (planet) with metals, mantras, foods, and of course, colours. Modern physics tells us that colour is simply light vibrating at different wavelengths, so it makes intuitive sense that colour could “tune” our energetic field, similar to the way a sitar string resonates when the right note is played.
In Vedic Astrology, the navagrahas (9 planets) represent archetypes of a person’s life. When one planet is dominant or activated (with Dasha/Antar Dasha, Transits or Aspects), its qualities become larger.
Too much of a planet’s energy may feel like over-amplification (e.g. nervousness in a Mercury period), while too little can feel like a lack (e.g. low self confidence in a Sun transit period). Colours offer an easy way to address these imbalances.

Planet–Colour Correspondences at a Glance
Different Astrologers and Scriptures provide slight different mappings, but most converge on the following:
Planeta | Core Themes | Balancing Colours |
Sun (Surya) | Vitality, authority, self-esteem | Saffron, gold |
Moon (Chandra) | Emotions, intuition, mother, fluids | Pure white, silver, pearl |
Mars (Mangala) | Drive, courage, blood, muscles | Bright red, crimson, scarlet |
Mercury (Budha) | Intellect, commerce, nerves | Emerald green, lime |
Jupiter (Guru) | Wisdom, expansion, benevolence | Warm yellow, honey, mustard |
Venus (Shukra) | Love, beauty, arts, luxuries | Pink, rose |
Saturn (Shani) | Discipline, longevity, karmic lessons | Indigo, deep navy, dark blue, charcoal |
Rahu (North Node) | Obsession, innovation, foreigners | Smoky grey, electric blue, ultraviolet |
Ketu (South Node) | Detachment, spirituality, past-life gifts | Earthy tan, maroon, ochre |
Remember, “balancing” is different from “boosting” or “activating”. If a planet is already hyperactive (say, Saturn transiting your Natal Moon), you may consider its complementary opposite, like soft beige or light blue, to soften the effect, rather than more indigo.
Working with Your Dasha: Timing Is Everything
In Vedic astrology, the Vimshottari Dasha system divides a lifetime into planetary periods that run from 6 years (Sun) to 20 years (Venus). The Mahadasha lord acts like the CEO of your mental world, while the Antardasha planet is the COO. One suggestion for when life is difficult, is to pick the colour for Mahadasha planet, and then fine-tune accessories such as scarves, socks, phone cases, based on the Antardasha lord. Use this sparingly, and consciously.
For example
Suppose you are in Venus Mahadasha, Mercury Antardasha. Then you can consider wearing gentle tones such as ivory, blush and powder blue (all associated with Venus), and then use emerald-coloured accessories for Mercury. Use this sparingly and consciously, and see if it helps to improve your days.
Practical Ways to Integrate Colour
Apart than clothing, here are other ways you can work with colour to balance planetary energies.

Workspace Cues - Use crystals, desk mats, or sticky notes in colours you want to bring. For instance, if Mercury is debilitated, a green plant by the monitor can help focus your thoughts.
Water glasses - Storing water overnight in coloured glass, and sip on it the next day. For a lethargic Sun, sip saffron-tinted water first thing in the morning; for a tense Mars, a light-blue bottle may be soothing.
Lighting & Screens - Change your phone wallpaper or computer theme to the balancing colour.
Meditation - Visualise inhaling the planet’s colour, and exhale any murky or dull shades that don’t belong.
Listening to Your Body’s Own Palette
The most important teacher is your own body. Keep a simple journal: note what you wore, what colours you activated during the day, and record your energy levels - emotional and mental. Patterns emerge slowly over time. You might discover, for example, that navy - Saturn’s colour - makes you productive during Shani periods, but slow when you need quick thinking.
A Word on Ethical & Cultural Sensitivity
Colour meanings vary by culture - white is purity in India, mourning in parts of Europe. If you share living or office space, consider what the particular colour may mean for others in your space. And remember: colours augment, but never replaces well-chosen gemstones, mantra practice, medical treatment, or sound practical effort. Think of this as a subtle backdrop music that sets the stage for your real work.
Bringing It All Together

Colour therapy in astrology is a fusion of art, psychology, and ancient metaphysics. By being mindful to the shades that enter your field, in the form of clothing, furniture, foods, etc., you can gradually balance the planets. A simple splash of colour can be a quiet but important ally on your journey.
