Are you interested in detailed, meticulous research? I have two ongoing research studies in Vedic Astrology that are open for fellow researchers. I am looking for a wide range of skill sets, and a meaningful collaboration. Interested?
Medical Astrology
Jyotish Shastra or Vedic Astrology studies the correlation between the configuration of planets at the moment of birth, and the life of an individual. In Medical Astrology, each Zodiacal sign, planet and House are associated with various parts of the body, and with a corresponding illness. If a benefic planetary configuration exists in the chart, then the associated part of the body is said to function well. If on the other hand, a malefic planetary configuration is present in the chart, then the person is said to suffer from the corresponding illness.
For instance, Maharishi Parashara has stated that the person will suffer from mental illness if Mars is in the 8th or 12th from the Lord of the Dasha, or if Mars is associated with malefics, or without dignity and strength (52:19-20, Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, date unknown). There are several other classical works, such as Brihat Jataka (57 BCE), Saravali (966 CE), Sarvatha Chintamani (13th century AD), Jataka Parijata (1426 CE) which provide various rules for determining whether a person suffers from a specific illness.
These need to be collated and analysed with a large number of charts, for a specific illness, in order to quantify the importance and relevance of each rule. Such a research will provide Astrologers with a framework for using modern day technologies in researching this ancient Science, as well as validations for diagnosing and alleviating illnesses using Vedic Astrology.

Vedic Astrology & Integral Yoga
Vedic Astrology has its origins in the Vedas, and is cited extensively in the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have also spoken on Astrology, and the relevance of predictions for sadaks. Sri Aurobindo shared his thoughts on Vedic Astrology, reviewed classical books on Vedic Astrology and also consulted astrologers on numerous occasions. Some of His writings on this topic are given below:
“…..If your horoscope can't be found, the exact time of birth will do, but it must be correct to the minute” (1902)

“If we go back to the true Hindu teaching … both Fate and Free-will are recognised” (Karmayogin, 1910)

“But if this experience could be collected, sifted and published, I believe it would be found that a formidable prima facie case exists in favour of astrology” (Arya, Views and Reviews, 1917)

“…as soon as one enters the path of spiritual life, this old predetermined destiny begins to recede” (Letters on Yoga, 1933)

“Even if the prediction were accurate according to the horoscope it need not fulfil itself, because by entering the spiritual life one opens to a new force which can change one's destiny.” (On Himself, 1937)

This project aspires to start a conversation on the confluence between Integral Yoga and Vedic Astrology, in the light of the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, by compiling their writings on the topic, and inviting leading thinkers in the 2 disciplines to come together on a common platform to share their knowledge. It is envisioned that this effort results in a publication, and a series of webinars, articles, podcasts and workshops.
